This northern Illinois locale was established in 1830 and is home to over 24,000 residents. Steeped in the rich canal heritage of the 1800's, Lockport is a delightful mix of quaint history and modern charm. Lockport is situated 35 miles southwest of Chicago and 5 miles north of Joliet, and is easily accessible via Interstate Highways 355, 80 and 55. Also, Lockport's Historic District is part of the 120-mile long Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor.

____________________________________________________________ WILL COUNTY H1N1 CLINIC SET FOR LOCKPORT EAST HIGH SCHOOL The Will County Health Department will be offering a free, H1N1 walk-in community clinic November 30 at Lockport East High School (1333 E. 7th), from 3-9 p.m.It will mark the second H1N1 community clinic hosted by the Lockport East campus. Health Department staff provided H1N1 vaccine to 1,975 area residents November 9. Through November 24, 11 Will County community H1N1 clinics have provided vaccine to more than 1,700 area residents. Inhalable and injectable formulations will be available for all the high priority groups at the November 30 clinic. Priority groups include: pregnant women; persons between 6 months and 24 years old; infant care givers; health professionals; emergency services personnel; and persons between 25 and 64 years old with chronic underlying medical conditions. Please click HERE for more information. ____________________________________________________________ monthly garbage rate increase Please be informed that the monthly per home rate for refuse and recycling services will increase to $16.75, $16.25 for seniors, effective November 1st, per the service agreement with Waste Management. On another note, please know that the curbside yard waste collection services provided by Waste Management will end Saturday, November 28, 2009, due to the 1-day delay from the Thanksgiving holiday. This project is being partially funded with a highly competitive $2 million Federal STP grant. Work will consist of a full reconstruction from Archer to Farrell, with storm sewer, curb and gutter, widening to 3 lanes and a new asphalt pavement section. A traffic signal will also be installed at the intersection of 151st and Archer. The road will be closed to through traffic until December 1, 2009, weather permitting. Local residents will have access during construction, but may experience delays due to the presence of construction equipment in the roadway. PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN DRIVING IN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA. We have been in contact with area schools regarding school bus pick-ups and drop-offs. Affected parents and students will be notified separately. We are looking forward to the completion of a sucessful project and your patience is greatly appreciated. Please contact the City of Lockport Engineering Department at (815)838-0549 ext 2315 with any questions you may have. 2009 VALLEY LANE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT The 2009 Valley Lane Reconstruction Project will commence soon. The City Council, at their August 5, 2009 meeting, awarded a contract to Austin-Tyler Construction for this project. Work will consist of pavement removal, earth excavation, storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk removal and replacement of defective sidewalk, new driveway aprons, new asphalt binder and surface courses and landscape restoration. We anticipate that work will begin in approximately 2 weeks. Residents will be notified once we have a firm start date. The completion date for this project is November 3, 2009.
